During this time of uncertainty, I decided to share what I wrote up last week about my university routine. I am in my second year attending Queen's University and studying commerce at the Smith School of Business. Let's get into the routine:
6:30am: Wake up!
I've always liked to wake up earlier than everyone else and get a headstart on my day. At this point, I try my best not to go on social media in bed and instead, wash my face and do some yoga to start off the day.
6:45am: Get ready
This is my favourite part of the day (sounds crazy I know). I always pick a good podcast and listen to that whilst I do my hair and makeup. I usually pick out my outfit beforehand so I slip that on as well and pack up my bag.
7:15am: Eat breakfast
I don't think I ever have a set breakfast that I go-to often. When I have long days of class such as this one, I try to have eggs and toast in the morning to fill me up. Sometimes this happens and sometimes it does not. This morning, I whipped up scrambled eggs really quick. As I ate my breakfast, I checked social media and read the news. However, this morning's catch-up was cut short since my housemate and I had a lot to catch up on since I was home for the weekend (in the 15-20min of us talking, we only got through half a day of missed stories - that's how close we are).
7:40am: Head out the door for class
My morning walks to school are usually very peaceful and get me in the right frame of mind for starting my day. Usually, I will stop by my best friend's house on the way to class and we will walk together, which is always a nice time for us to catch up.
8:30am - 2:30pm: Class, class, class
Easily my busiest day of class. I have four back-to-back classes (which are pretty killer), but it allows me to have lighter school days throughout the week, which I like. Today, I had marketing II, managerial economics, ethics, and introduction to digital business.
2:30pm-4:00pm: Meetings
I usually have about 3 group meetings a week for school projects and 2 meetings a week for extra-curriculars so I am no stranger to booking meetings whenever I can. Today was a marketing meeting with one of my favourite groups ever, which was very productive and brightened my mood.
4:10pm: Finally arrive home & start working
The moment I've been waiting for all day! I usually have a quick snack to eat and take about a 30 min break before I start working on homework for the day.
7:30pm: Dinner time
At this point, my housemate has come home and we make dinner together and catch up on the day (and finished catching up from the weekend). I usually eat dinner pretty late so this is considered early for me. I made a garden salad, which is pretty typical for me when I have had a busy day and do not have the patience to make a full meal.
8:00pm: More work
This is the point in my night where I take care of all of my branding work for the day. This includes editing a YouTube video or a podcast episode, working on new graphics for my Instagram accounts, and/or drafting new marketing campaigns for my consulting company. Also, if I have any work to do for the committees I am apart of at school, I do it now as well.
9:15pm: Friend & Family Time
Some nights I will call back home and other nights I will have a Netflix night with my friends. Tonight, my housemate, our friend, and I watched Black Mirror, which is what we are currently binging right now.
10:45pm: Night Routine
After I've finished up for the night, I start my skincare routine and journal for a bit. These two things always put me in the right frame of mind to go to bed. Sometimes, I will do a plank, a few crunches and pushups before bed if I missed time to workout (which on this day I did). After I do all of that, it is lights out for me!
While not everyday is the same, this *used to be* my typical Monday routine. With everything going on in the world right now, it can be hard to get into a routine. I have begun to replace some things in my routine with alternate activities. For example, I do not have to walk to school, but instead I workout. My meetings and classes have all been moved online and then I continue homework after that. I know it can be difficult to get in that frame of mind espeically now, but it starts with planning out each day and then you will begin to fall into a new routine.
What has your new routine looked like? Let me know in the comments!
