Happy autumn, my favourite time of the year! To take a break from a typical fashion post (which will be coming very soon), I decided to walk around my beautiful new campus and capture the incredible sights I see on my way to class. My favourite things to do in fall (besides watching Halloween movies of course) is going for fall walks when the leaves are changing and falling.
With this autumn season, I have moved away to university for the first time. Starting university is not as easy or fun of a transition as most students think it is. It can get extremely difficult to manage. Personally, there were some things that have been impacting me that I did not think would be this intense. Being miles apart from the people I love has been the hardest. You grow so close to the people you have in your life and become so used to their company that having them be far away can be an aggressive change in your life.
Of course, I still keep in contact with my loved ones and I know others have it worse, but it affects you very harshly. Additionally, the change in school culture can be enjoyable for some, but difficult for others. University provides many opportunities to explore your comfortability and experiment in all the things you think university may be for. You know what I am talking about. However, this has never been my goal or made me feel comfortable. Therefore, I have always been completely okay with staying in with a few friends rather than going out to big parties. That value of mine has been tested and it is important to be aware of this pressure going off to school. You should never feel pressured to change your values to "fit in", that even just sounds ridiculous right? Remember that. You do what YOU want and never let someone make you feel bad about that or feel like you are of less value.
Autumn for me always represents a time of change as it is the start of a new school year. Last fall, I was a senior in high school and I was overwhelmed with university applications and all my extracurriculars. However, at the end of the day, it was an exciting time and I was genuinely enjoying what I was doing. This year, I am in a completely new place and finding a way to balance my life in such a way I can feel happy, have a strong mental health, and continue my studies. Honestly, that sounds like a distant dream to a university student.
Taking walks like these in a season that represents warmth and happiness is what keeps me grounded and ensures that I do not get wrapped up too much in the current struggles. There is beauty in life and sometimes, you have to step away to see it.
Take care of yourselves during this time and go out and enjoy the best season!
